Privacy Policy

Peerhood takes privacy seriously. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when using Peerhood.

If you connect health data to Peerhood (for example, from Apple Health), that data is covered by our separate Health Data Privacy Policy, not this policy.

1. Information We Collect

A. Information You Provide

When you use Peerhood, we may collect:

• Name or username
• Email address or phone number
• Profile information you choose to share (e.g., birthday, gender, location, Instagram/TikTok handle)
• Photos and videos you add to your profile or share in the app
• Text content such as messages, posts, and other content you submit

B. Voice Messages and Transcription

If you use voice features in Peerhood, we may record your voice long enough to transcribe it into text. The transcription may be processed on your device or through a transcription provider. You can turn off microphone or transcription access at any time in your device settings.

C. Social Media Handles

You may optionally add your Instagram and/or TikTok handle to your profile so other members can find you there. This is a plain text field you type in yourself — Peerhood does not connect to Instagram or TikTok accounts, and does not access, request, or store any other data from those platforms (photos, posts, captions, hashtags, followers, or any account information beyond the handle you typed).

D. Contact Information

If you allow contact access, Peerhood uses your contacts to help you find people you already know and invite friends. We do not upload or store your full contact list. We only use the information needed to check whether a contact is already on Peerhood or to help you send an invite.

• We do not sell your contacts.
• We do not use your contacts for advertising.
• You can revoke contact access anytime in device settings.

E. Location Information

When you view meetup locations on a map, we request your approximate location (when the map is visible) so you can see your position as a blue dot and how far events are from you. Your location is shown only to you on the map—other users cannot see your position. We do not continuously track your location or share your device location with other users.

We also collect location information you provide in your profile (e.g., city and state) and when you add locations to meetups or events.

F. Identifiers and Automatically Collected Information

We may collect:

• User ID (your unique account identifier)
• Device ID (for authentication and push notifications)
• Device type, operating system, and app version
• App interaction and usage data
• Crash data and error logs
• IP address (for security and fraud prevention)

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide and improve the Services
• Generate AI-assisted summaries or insights from your profile and conversations
• Authenticate users and secure accounts
• Send push notifications for messages, meetups, and other activity
• Diagnose technical issues and improve performance
• Communicate important updates related to the Services

We do not sell your personal data.

3. AI & Automated Processing

Peerhood uses AI to help power your profile, introductions, conversation starters, chat, and meetup suggestions — including your AI Connector (“Scout”), connection context for introductions, matching-related features, and meetups. This section stays limited to those purposes (not a general-purpose consumer profile or advertising product).

Third-party AI providers. When you use those features, Peerhood may send your profile information, messages, preferences, and related app activity from our servers to the following providers so they can process it on our behalf. They are the only third-party AI model providers we use for this purpose:

• Anthropic, PBC (“Anthropic,” Claude models) — primary provider for most conversational AI and connector responses; OpenAI is used when Anthropic is unavailable (backup), and both may process chat-related requests depending on runtime routing.
• OpenAI, LLC (“OpenAI”) — backup for conversational AI when Anthropic is unavailable; also used for embeddings and certain other processing used for matching and related features.

Categories of information may include, depending on the feature: profile fields you add; messages you send in AI-assisted chats; preferences and related in-app activity; suggested-match or introduction context; and similar text needed to generate responses, introductions, and recommendations inside Peerhood (not for training third-party advertising models).

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use AI processing for third-party advertising or third-party ad profiling.

Consent: The app shows the same provider names and purposes described here and asks you to confirm before it enables sending your personal data to Anthropic or OpenAI for those features.

4. Data Sharing

We may share personal information with service providers that help us operate Peerhood.

This may include hosting, customer support, Anthropic and OpenAI for AI processing (Section 3), analytics, IT support, and chat infrastructure.

We require service providers that receive user data from Peerhood to provide the same or equal protection for user data as described in this Privacy Policy.

We require service providers to protect user data and use it only for authorized purposes. We do not sell your personal data.

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety and rights of users.

5. Analytics

We use Google Analytics to collect information about how users interact with our Services. This may include device identifiers, app usage and interaction data, and similar technical information. The information generated by analytics is transmitted to and stored by the analytics provider and is subject to that provider's privacy policy. We use this data to improve the Services and understand how features are used. You may be able to limit certain analytics collection through your device settings, including Apple's "Ask App Not to Track" setting where applicable.

6. Your Privacy Choices

You may manage privacy settings, revoke permissions (contacts, location, notifications), or block other users through the Services or your device settings. When you block or hide a user, we store that preference to enforce your choices.

We may send you push notifications through our mobile application. You may opt out of receiving push notifications by changing the settings on your mobile device.

7. Data Retention & Deletion

We retain user data only as long as necessary to provide the Services.

You may request deletion of your data by contacting legal@peerhood.co or through the in-app account deletion flow.

Upon request, your data will be permanently deleted unless retention is required by law.

8. International Transfers

All personal information processed by us may be transferred, processed, and stored anywhere in the world, including the United States or other countries, which may have data protection laws that are different from the laws where you live.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect user data. While no system is completely secure, we continuously work to protect information from unauthorized access.

10. Children's Privacy

The Services are not directed to children under 18 (or other age as required by local law). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information to us in violation of applicable law, please contact us at legal@peerhood.co.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we do, we will post the updated policy on our website and update the "Last updated" date above. We may also send other communications. Your continued use of the Services after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
